With the arrival of Genshin Impact version 5.8, a new and fascinating elemental mechanic has been introduced: the Lunar-Charged reaction, accessible only for now through the character Ineffa, hailing from Nod-Krai.
This guide aims to clearly and comprehensively explain how the reaction works!
And as in all my guides, I will try to explain it in a simple way, so that even less experienced players can understand it.
What is Lunar-Charged?
Lunar-Charged is a new advanced elemental reaction introduced in Genshin Impact version 5.8, and Ineffa is the first character to trigger it so far.
How does Lunar-Charged work?
When Hydro and Electro react with each other, instead of the classic Electro-Charged effect, an electric cloud appears above the affected enemies.
╰┈➤ This cloud:
• Generates a lightning bolt every ~2 seconds
• The lightning bolt automatically strikes enemies affected by Hydro/Electro
Lunar-Charged reaction can be triggered with a character with Moonsign Benediction talent in the party
Unlike normal reactions, which scale their damage based on the Elemental Mastery of the character triggering the reaction,
Lunar-Charged takes the stats of the contributor into account for the final damage.
Lunar-Charged can also crit, so it's important to give characters Crit stats as well.
📐 How is lightning damage calculated?
Each lightning bolt has a damage value that depends on:
- The character contributing the reaction (Hydro and Electro)
- Their level
- Their Elemental Mastery (EM)
- Their Crit Value (Crit Rate and Crit DMG)
- Their reaction bonuses (such as Goblet Electro DMG, talents, weapons, etc.)
Lunar-Charged Damage = [Base Damage] × [EM Bonus] × [Multiple CRIT] × [Reaction Bonus]
But let's look at each point in more detail:
1. Character Contributing Hydro/Electro
If both Hydro and Electro have activated the reaction, the game takes the damage from both (based on EM, CRIT, etc.) and adds them together in a weighted manner:
Total Damage =
maximum (calculated damage) +
0.5 × minimum (calculated damage) +
1/12 × other contributors (if any)
What does it mean?
- The character with the highest damage value has the most impact.
- The other contributes half of its damage.
╰┈➤Example:
Hydro Character: 200 EM no Crit Stats
Electro Character: Ineffa 600 EM + 70% CRIT Rate + 140 CRIT DMG + other Bonus
The final damage calculation will favor Ineffa as she is the one with the highest values, the Hydro character will still contribute but only half.
╰┈➤Result:
The Lunar-Charged Cloud will use a combined damage of both, but the lightning will do more damage if the better-built character contributed.
2. Base DMG
Base damage depends on the character's level.
It's an "internal" value used by all Transformative reactions (such as Overloaded, Electro-Charged, Swirl, etc.).
The game calculates it automatically.
╰┈➤Note:
For example, at level 80 the base damage is around 1077, at level 90 it is 1446 for Transformative reactions,
but Lunar‑Charged can have its own multiplier.
🌸So it will be very important that the characters who contribute to the reaction are at Max level.
3. Bonuses from Elemental Mastery (EM)
It is calculated with this formula:
Bonus EM = 5 × EM / (EM + 2100) x100 %
╰┈➤Example:
so if you have EM 400 —→ 400x5=2000 / 400+2100=2500 — 2000:2500=0,8 x 100 = 80
4. CRIT Value
Unlike normal reactions, Lunar-Charged can crit!
For each "contributor" to the reaction, the damage can crit if that character has Crit Rate / Crit DMG.
╰┈➤Formula:
CRIT Value = 1 + CritRate × CritDMG
Example with 70% CR + 140% CDMG:
CRIT Value = 1 + 0.7 × 1.4 = 1.98
5. Reaction bonuses
nclude:
• Goblets with Electro DMG bonus
• Weapons that provide Elemental DMG bonus or Lunar-Charged Bonus
• Artifact sets (Thundersoother, Gilded Dreams, etc.)
• Ineffa talents (increase Lunar-Charged damage)
╰┈➤Note:
Note: Several weapons, artifacts, and characters from 5.8 will be updated to accommodate this reaction.
BONUS: Ineffa's Passive Talent
I created an excel file with the estimated damage based on Ineffa's ATK and Elemental Mastery.
Conclusion ⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡
unar-Charged is a very powerful reaction, especially on teams built around EM and CRIT.
Thanks to Ineffa, this reaction introduces advanced mechanics and a new depth to reactive gameplay.
I know these calculations may seem difficult, but if you build your characters with the right stats, the damage will be assured.
I tried to explain it as simply as possible. If you have any doubts or questions, please let me know in the comments.
