After a three-year break, the KeSPA Cup is making a comeback in the LoL off-season, bringing a revamped format and fresh excitement. Here’s a quick look at what you need to know.
2024 LoL KeSPA Cup – New Format and 12 Competing Teams
Officially announced today, the KeSPA Cup returns with a newly designed format and a lineup of 12 teams. Scheduled from November 30 to December 8, this off-season tournament will be broadcast exclusively on Naver Chijijik and the Korea e-Sports Association's YouTube channel.
Unlike previous editions, which included amateur teams, this year's KeSPA Cup will focus solely on selecting players for the national team, using performance and statistics to guide the process. In addition to the 10 LCK teams, the Vietnam All-Star and Chinese Taipei All-Star teams will also compete, aiming to test players' skills ahead of the new season while providing valuable international matchups.
The Format
The tournament format divides the 12 teams into two groups, where each team will play a single round-robin. The top four teams in each group will advance. Once in the main event, matchups will be based on group rankings, with the winning teams in the first-seed matches advancing to the semifinals, and the fourth-seed losers being eliminated. After four matches, the top four teams will be set, with the semifinals played as a best-of-3 series and the finals as a best-of-5.
The Schedule
The group stage runs from November 30 to December 3, followed by the main event, with the semifinals and finals scheduled for December 7-8. While the group and main event stages will be held online, the semifinals and finals will take place live at the V Space stadium in Seoul, South Korea. Further updates on the tournament bracket and ticket sales will be shared on the Korea e-Sports Association's social media channels.
