You can upgrade your Q by damaging enemies and getting kills early. So it's a great tool to snowball.
Post 6, your Ultimate can deal a lot of AOE damage and provide you with sustain to survive the fight.
Your E allows you to reposition and get over walls, so be mindful before using it.

Smolder is the newest addition to League of Legends and he is an ADC. Smolder is similar to Veigar and he has a passive he can stack infinitely whenever he kills a unit with his Q or touch a champion with his ability. The more he stacks, the more his Q will upgrade into a more and more deadly fireball with an execute integrated. Smolder will be vulnerable when his E is down. So keep an eye and don't be overly-aggressive.

Early Game: Your first power spike is at level 3 where you unlock all 3 of your basic abilities. But, you’ll find your strongest at level 4 with 2 points in your first ability. Fight only when your Support or Jungler are nearby and engaging since you don't want to mess up your early game.
Mid Game: The more ahead he gets early on, the faster his Q upgrades will be. He should be able to get well-into maxing out his upgrades during the mid-game. Look to fight more and get even more ahead.
Late Game: In the late game, you’ll put a third point in your Ultimate. Your Ultimate’s damage output in fights and skirmishes will be quite high. At the same time, you will have a lot of items picked up, so you will be very powerful.
