I love dogs, and I love dragons—so why not put both into one deck? Exactly, there’s absolutely no reason not to! Welcome to Stoutland + Garchomp, or as I lovingly call it: D&D (Dogs and Dragons).

Ever since the release of Space Time Smackdown, I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out how to make the most of Garchomp’s potential. And let’s be real, it’s got a lot going for it:

  • A solid 140 HP-Stat
  • No weakness (thanks to its Dragon typing)
  • Low retreat cost (*)
  • An insanely strong ability (draw + discard)
  • And an attack that hits for 100 damage with just 2 Energy—which jumps to 150 if Cynthia's involved.

Of course, a package this good doesn’t come without some drawbacks:

  • It’s a Stage 2 Pokémon
  • Its attack needs two different Energy types

So, what do you need to really get this Pokémon going? Time—and a little bit of luck while you wait for the right Energy. Thankfully, since the Dimensional Crisis expansion, there’s a way to buy yourself that time: enter Stoutland.

Stoutland not only comes with a beefy 140 HP, but also brings a phenomenal ability to the table: as long as it’s in the active spot, your opponent has to attach an extra Energy to attack. That’s huge!

On top of that, it has a solid attack of its own—70 damage for 2 Energy—which lets it take out some key meta Pokémon like Oricorio in one shot, and chip away at those bulky EX Pokémon so your dragon buddy can come in and clean up.
