I would say to use Dark Seal in any matchup that is easy or you have a jungler that is a perma ganker.
Doran Shield Is For Heavy Poke Matchups That You Know You cant Jump On (Vex/Ahri if she is good)
Doran Ring Is A good start if you can get a kill early but the enemy laner gets a strong spike soon and you can't kill anymore (yasuo/yone/fizz)
