Two Archetypes Unite.
It’s been a minute since I played Crobat. I uploaded a video on this card the very day it was released, and never got back to it since. Crobat Arceus instantly became a popular darkness deck in the meta, yet quite a bit of time has passed. There’s a new kid on the block. 3 expansions later Guzzlord and Celesteela clearly surpass it in playrate. Both cores are quite similar, as they combine a dark type with a normal type, each duo containing a component who synergizes heavily with the other. What if we take these 4 pokemon, and put them all in the same deck?
2 archetypes made one. Today’s deck combines Crobat Arceus with the Ultra beasts, making use of Celesteelas defensive prowess to pivot around our opponents offense while we wear them down with Crobat’s Cunning Link. Celesteela and Guzzlord being basics provides us with the deck space to accomplish this. We run a total of 9 pokemon alongside a full set of rare candy, this leaves up space for 9 other trainer cards to support our tactic. While pivoting around between our Ultra Beasts is easy, switching in Crobat and Arceus is not. Fortunately for us, Celesteela and Arceus are normal types. So just like we did with Krookodile, a full set or Ilima acts as the bridge between both cores. We can use both Celesteela and Arceus as early game walls, return them to our hand right before they fall, to then send in our designated attacker to defeat all. Both Arceus and Guzzlord have attacks that often barely miss out on the one hit KO. With Crobat present on the bench, we can provide them with 30 extra damage to score that clutch kill.
The end result is a deck that brings out the best from both archetypes. We defend early, find our evolution pieces as we build up our main attacker. And when all is ready, we unleash a counter attack with our heavy hitters backed up by one very smart Crobat.
