Charizard at home.
Alolan Golem is Charizard at home. With 160 HP, Super Zap Cannon deals 150 damage for 4 energy, every time we click on this all powerful attack, Golem discards 2 electric energy. Comparing this card to Charizard EX doesn’t bode well for Golem. We have less bulk, our attack is significantly weaker and we lack a 3 energy attack that doesn’t eat up our energy. It doesn’t look great for Alolan Golem, but believe it or not, there are some perks.
Alolan Golem will only give our opponent’s one point, and he’s also an electric type, which allows us to run Electrical Cord in the same deck. Instead of playing Moltres, we can resort to Pachirisu to ramp. Real talk, this card isn’t very good. So you’re probably wondering why I’m making a deck on it. I think Alolan Golem’s design is amazing, just look at him, if Burt Reynolds were a pokemon, he’d be an Alolan Golem. I think this pokemon looks cool, so I decided to make a terrible deck around him.
Behold, today’s deck will ramp as much energy onto Golem as possible in order to Zap them all. Super Zap Cannon’s damage output matches up pretty damn well into the meta, one shotting key EX Pokemon such as Buzzwole, Giratina, Darkrai and Arceus. And for those who attempt to survive, one copy of Sophocles will suffice. Amping up Golem’s attack to 180 damage, scoring the one hit KO on the most resilient threats.
The game plan is particularly simple here, we lead off with Pachirisu or pivot into it with Leaf. Then we plasma as many times as we can while we ramp energy onto Alolan Geodude. If we draw Electrical Cord, we give it to Pachirisu. This way we aim to build up ideally 6 energy on Golem. As this will allow us to fire off 3 super zap cannons consecutively. And that’s it, what could possibly go wrong? We also run one copy of Guzma to deal with pesky tools that hurt our Pachirisu early and deny our Golem’s one hit KO later.
This is definitely not my most competitive creation, yet Alolan Golem can often exceed ones expectations. Give him all your energy and embrace domination. Sometimes.
