Seems ridiculous, but it works.
It took me a while, but I finally got my second copy of Decidueye. With 170 HP, Decidueye has 2 attacks. Razor Leaf deals 80 damage for 2 grass type energy, and then there’s Pierce the Pain. Which will deal 100 damage to ANY opposing damaged pokemon on the board. I’ve been dying to build a deck with this card.
Decidueye has quite a few potential teammates. Yet there is one that stands out above the rest. Greninja’s Water Shuriken ability is absolutely broken when combined with Pierce the Pain. You can target any pokemon from the opponent’s board, leaving it damaged to then follow up with Pierce the Pain for a total of 120 damage. Imagine being able to attack any pokemon on the field with Solgaleo. That’s pretty much what we’re doing here.
Today’s deck combines Frog with Owl, in a dual energy list that will make your opponent’s Scowl. At first glance, this deck seems ridiculous. We’re combining 2 stage 2 evolutions in a deck with 2 different types of energy. And yet… it just works. As you can see we’re only running 3 supporter cards, 2 of them being a full set of Iono. The reason for this is once we’ve completed Decidueye and Greninja, we don’t really need more. If these 2 pokemon happen to be on the field, they run through EVERYTHING. As they provide us with an offense with unparalleled range, water shuriken into pierce the pain leaves no pokemon safe.
Rare Candy is what makes this deck possible. Froakie is one of the absolute best recipients of this card, as the earlier you evolve into Greninja, the deadlier Water Shuriken will get. Greninja’s Mist Slash attack only requires one specific source of water energy, while Decidueye’s Pierce the Pain can function with any energy type. Make no mistake, dual energy is the BEST way to play this pokemon combination. Because our deck's strength is fully dependent on us finding our pieces, our biggest enemy is bricking. Which is why a full set of Iono is essential here. We run a total of 10 pokemon in the deck, so Pokemon Communication is not a good idea, Iono fits this list perfectly due to our low supporter density, making sure we can chain our plays after we’ve mulliganed our hand away.
This is my favourite pokemon pocket deck of all time. The insane power level this list achieves has truly encouraged me to explore other dual stage 2 evolution strategies enabled by Rare Candy. Evolve Frog and Bird, chip away at your opponent’s threats and then pierce them before they even get to attack.
