All or nothing.
At first glance Alolan Exeggutor seems like a meme. I’m not just talking about his looks, for 3 energy, Tropical Hammer leads to a coin flip, if you flip heads you deal 150 damage, but if you flip tails nothing happens. Needless to say, attacking with this pokemon is pure risque. All or nothing, that is the alolan way. Yet once you factor in Alolan Exeggutors traits, you’ll soon realize this pokemon is actually great. Let’s talk about said traits.
While he may lack accuracy, Alolan Exeggutors speed and resilience are excellent. Despite Tropical Hammer requiring 3 energy, Exeggcute can easily accelerate it. Growth Spurt will ramp one grass type energy, allowing you to Tropical Hammer on your second attack. But what really stands out here, is Alolan Exeggutors HP stat.
Alongside Gyarados, Alolan Exeggutor has the highest HP stat out of all non-EX Stage 1 evolutions.
150 HP for a pokemon of this nature is absolutely ridiculous, on top of that, Alolan Exeggutor is a grass type, meaning you can equip a Leaf Cape, and have access to Erika to heal it. It is very difficult for your opponent to KO Exeggutor early, and due to the absurd power of his attack, all you need is one heads to blow your target back. This makes Alolan Exeggutor a massive threat.
Today’s deck is the evolution of last season's Darkrai/Giratina counter, with a combination that both ramps and heals, Alolan Exeggutor provides this deck with a faster attacker that will make your enemies kneel. Due to the nature of our attackers, we run water energy instead of grass, so that a full set of Erika and Irida keeps our HP stats intact. We get away with this thanks to Growth Spurt and Forest Breath. We also still run one copy of Psychic Exeggutor, this way we can lead off with Tropical Hammer in the early game, to then resort to a more reliable heavy hitter to end things.
Absurd, chaotic power backed up by healing. This Alolan Exeggutor deck’s damage output knows no ceiling.
