Smite 2 Patch Notes Guide For Supports

Ewww, Bugs

The biggest changes are, as expected, bug fixes. Health chalice's 3rd charge has been fixed, however, it comes at the cost of health potions no longer being able to stack with Health Chalice. This may mean that supports come out of base with an extra 100 gold, or, alternatively, we go back to the Smite 1 strat of walking out of base with 2 wards. Either one is a valid start in my opinion, but Chalice is likely still the play instead of buying 4 health potions. Ares will also likely shoot up in priority once his ult is consistently pulling and stunning enemies, not challenging Bacchus's primacy, but likely matching Ymir's strength. RIP Circe's Hexstone. No longer being able to use the item during channeling abilities is a big hit to the item's strength, it still may be worth the pick up, but as a flex item.

Items and Gods Galore

As far as individual god and item balancing goes, I don't forsee any big changes coming down the pipeline. If anything, the changes to Gauntlet of Thebes should cement Amanita Charm as first item in the support build (despite it tanking a nerf). With the nerf to Sundering Arc and the coming inclusion of Pyromancer to Smite 2 (all hail the glorious Pyromancer), it's possible that supports may actually be able to choose a different relic coming out of base. This does, however, come at the cost of 3 minute gold furies and invading early. Spectral Armor, Hide of the Nemean Lion, and Leviathan's Hide saw some considerable buffs, making them worth plugging into the support build, with a special shout out to Oni Hunter's Garb now having a whopping 65 Magical Protections.

The New Kids on the Block

A warm welcome to the two new gods coming to Smite 2, Nu Wa and Amaterasu. Nu Wa may be an interesting option as a support with her root auto plus stun combo, especially since her root auto will have an area effect after she uses Shining Metal. The biggest issue being that her ult is functionally useless in the support role unless you're using it to gain vision. Ama is an ok consideration for a support character since she has a protection shred passive, her 1 produces an aura that gives strength/intelligence or movement speed as well as heals her upon activation, a 3 that silences, and an ultimate that can threaten to stun multiple enemies. Her biggest struggle, as always, is her lack of peel in the support role. While she is able to hit the gas pedal, her brake lines have been cut and she'll leave most of her carries out to dry when it comes to the dive in a team fight.

Conclusion/TL;DR

All things considered, there shouldn't be any major shakeups in the support role after this patch drops. To some degree this makes sense given that there are currently only 4 gods who truly encapsulate the stats and abilities we expect from supports, on the other hand, I'm a little dissapointed that there weren't any major item shake ups in the role. Personally, I'd like some more hybrid items that facilitate the ranked demon grindset of walking at the enemy team and stat checking them. However, I don't want it to devolve into the state Smite 1 is in where solo laners are building hybrid and can walk down squishies with little room for outplay. I think the items and gods in Smite 2 are in a decent enough spot, there needs to be some more balancing put into Sol and Bacchus, and absolutely more bug fixes, but the state of the game is promising.
