The Basics
In every shop, the far-right slot features a 2-star unit with one of its traits doubled — that’s your Headliner. Once you buy one, you’ll only see a new Headliner every four shops. Selling your current Headliner resets this cycle. You’re limited to one Headliner at a time, so if a better option shows up, you’ll need to sell your current one first.
Some comps rely on specific traits being doubled. For example, Katarina carry relies on the Crowd Diver trait, so she can run 6 Crowd Diver in late game. It is possible to force this outcome because Headliner traits alternate. If you skip a Country Katarina, the next Katarina you see as a Headliner is guaranteed to be Crowd Diver.
However, this trick doesn't work the same way for units with three traits, like Yone or Sett. Skipping one trait only removes it from the next appearance — it doesn’t guarantee the one you want. For instance, if you skip Edgelord Yone, the next version will be either Heartsteel or Crowd Diver. If you then see Crowd Diver, the next time it's a 50/50 between Heartsteel and Edgelord. Because of this, you want to avoid chasing specific Headliners for units with three traits.
Hidden Rule 1 - Lockout
There used to be a rule that locked out specific traits from appearing for multiple shops when skipping a Headliner, but it doesn't exist anymore. In the past if you skipped past EDM Jax, you could not see EDM Lux for the next 4 shops, but this restriction is not present in the Revival.
When skipping a Tier 1, 2, 3 unit you can't see the same unit as a Headliner for the next 7 Shops. For Tier 4 units the limit is only 4 shops and for Tier 5 unit the limit is 3 shops.
Hidden Rule 2 - Limit
To prevent players from hardforcing 3 Star units with the Headliner mechanic, Riot added an additional rule:
- If you hold more than 4 copies of a Tier 4 or Tier 5 unit, it can't appear as a Headliner
For example if you have 5 copies of Ezreal and sell your Headliner hoping for Ezreal to appear, he can't. You have to sell one of your Ezreal copies first, to make sure you only have a maximum of 4 copies.
There used to be a rule for Tier 5 units that you're not allowed to hold more than 3 copies, but this rule was adjust for the Set 10 Revival.
This rule DOES NOT affect Tier 1/2/3 units, you are free to collect 6 copies and finish your 3 Star with a Headliner.
Hidden Rule 3 - Three Star Block
When you upgrade a unit to 3 Star, you can't see this unit in your shop anymore. In the Set 4 Revival, you could bypass this rule and could still find a Chosen of your 3 Star unit later. This does not work in the Set 10 Revival.
This is relevant for Augments like Worth the Wait, because if you have 8 Copies and don't have your Headliner yet, you need to roll, or you won't be able to find the Headliner anymore.
