How to play fast 9 Varus [GUIDE]

Goal: Try to get Golden Edge on Gnar as early as possible.

Why? Golden Edge stacks even during PvE rounds, giving huge scaling potential.

Timing: Equip the power-up at round 1-2. There’s about a 20% chance to get it there.

Multiple Gnars: If you find several early, you can try to force this strategy.

Important tip: Upgrading to Gnar 2 early is not necessary → he will actually generate fewer stacks of Golden Edge over the course of the game.

Rageblade as your first item allows you to generate a lot of gold early on, thanks to faster stacking and consistent DPS.

Frontline focus: During Stage 2, aim to build the strongest possible frontline.

Traits to use: You can stabilize with Heavyweights or Juggernauts depending on what you hit.

Backline limitation: Keep the backline units to a minimum → this ensures Gnar takes more aggro and stacks Golden Edge as efficiently as possible.

Frontline consolidation: Keep reinforcing your frontline so Gnar and your tanks can hold longer.

Start adding backline: Introduce a few damage dealers in the backline to secure fights.

Goal: This balance helps you preserve HP while still keeping Gnar as the main focus for stacking Golden Edge.

Level timing: Depending on your gold count, push for Level 9 at 4-2, 4-5, or 5-1 if you still have at least 75 HP.

Gold requirement: You should have at least 50–60 gold at Level 9 to give yourself a solid chance of hitting the comp.

Golden Edge management: If you’re close to reaching a Golden Edge stack breakpoint, keep the power-up on Gnar a little longer.

Transition: Once ready, transfer powerups to your Varus / Twisted Fate, who will become your main carries.

2-star 5-cost priority: Focus on hitting your 2-star 5-cost units rather than pushing for Level 10 — no comp in the current meta can rival that power spike.
