The Trait

When you lose a fight, gain Luck. The more fights in a row you lose, the more Luck you get. Lose 10% Luck when you win.

  • (3) Roll a dice; in that many player combats, hold a Festival where you may convert your Luck into rewards.
  • (5) Heal 3 player health at the start of each player combat.
  • (7) Fortune smiles! Gain extra rewards and more luck every turn no matter what, and hold a Festival every turn.

Each Festival, roll a new die.

Gain Points By Losing Fights

While the description is more or less clear on how the trait works, it still leaves out a lot of details. How many points can you actually gain and is there a difference between losing in Stage 2 and Stage 4?

The first time you lose a fight with Fortune active, no matter which stage, you will only receive 1 point. Afterwards the game will check your Stage and add a specific amount of points to your streak. It works like this:

  • Stage 2 -> +1 Point
  • Stage 3 -> +2 Points
  • Stage 4 -> +3 Points
  • Stage 5 -> +5 Points

Example

To fully understand this, let's go through an example together: Stage 2 is fairly easy to understand: For every consecutive loss the game adds 1 point to your streak which gets added on top of the points you managed to accumulate so far.

  • Stage 2-1 -> 1 Point (0+1)
  • Stage 2-2 -> 3 Points (1+2)
  • Stage 2-3 -> 6 Points (3+3)
  • Stage 2-5 -> 10 Points (6+4)
  • Stage 2-6 -> 15 Points (10+5)

The first time you lose in Stage 3, the game will now add +2 to your streak. Keep in mind that the game will remember the streak if you already lost with Fortune in Stage 2 and you can only benefit from the increased gain after losing once in the new Stage. If we continue the streak from Stage 2 your points will look like this:

  • Stage 3-1 -> 21 Points (10+6)
  • Stage 3-2 -> 29 Points (21+8)
  • Stage 3-3 -> 39 Points (29+10)
  • Stage 3-5 -> 51 Points (39+12)
  • Stage 3-6 -> 65 Points (51+14)

If you're curious about the total points you can reach, you can simply check out this table.

What Is Worth Aiming For?

Since your cashout is not based around winning at a specific moment, you don't have much control over your preferred outcome. In some cases if you only want to push your luck once and aim for a Spatula or Tome of Traits you can try to intentionally win the remaining rounds as long as the 10% penalty doesn't put you below the threshold you are aiming for.

7 Fortune

To reach 7 Fortune you will need all five Fortune units and two elusive Emblems. You can achieve this with the help from Sentinel Trainer Portal, Fortune Crest/Crown, Wandering Trainer Augment or Tome of Traits.

Once you activate the trait the entire system changes:

  • You don't have any penalty anymore for winning your fights
  • Every fight you receive an additional +12 on top of your streak
  • Every Dice Roll is a 1, so you can cash out or push your luck every round
  • You receive a bonus loot orb every round, which includes loot like Fortune Emblem, Artifact Anvil, Support Anvil or item components.

9 Fortune

Riot also included an Easter Egg with 9 Fortune. You need a total of 4 Fortune Emblems, which is quite difficult to reach since they nerfed 7 Fortune stacks to 12 and you can't farm a Tome of traits anymore. Your best bet is the 250 Mystery Gift that can contain 6 Fortune Emblems.

With 9 Fortune the Money Tree will join your board as a unit and spill gold coins in all direction during combat. These coins will deal considerable damage to all enemy units hit, effectively winning the fight for you while granting you large amounts of gold every round.
