How to Play Crystal Gambit — TFT Set 15: K.O. Coliseum
Crystal Gambit is set 15’s economy trait where you will be able to trade health for additional details – with the catch that you take the risk of not getting the strongest cash out if you accidentally win a round! Let’s take a closer look at the Crystal Gambit trait, its units, and how it functions!

How TFT Crystal Gambit Works
Crystal Gambit Trait Bonus
Kills and losses during player combats earn Gem Power. Every 4 player combats choose to convert Gem Power into rewards or Double Down.
While Double Down is active losses grant 115% more Gem Power, but wins lose 50% Gem Power and cash out immediately.
Gem Power gains increase at stages 3 and 4.
- (3) ? per kill; ? per loss
- (5) And every ? kills, gain bonus loot and reroll a new kill number.
- (7) 150% rewards. Crystal Gambit units gain 300 Health and 25% DA.
Crystal Gambit Synergy
Here are the additional traits of the Crystal Gambit champions that give the opportunity to create trait webs:
- Syndra (1G) – Star Guardian & Prodigy
- Janna (2G) – Protector & Strategist
- Vi (2) – Crystal Gambit & Juggernaut
- Swain (3G) – Bastion & Sorcerer
- Ashe (4G) – Duelist
- Zyra (5G) – Rosemother
The Crystal Gambit Trait
There always has to be a risk into the cash out trait in each TFT set, and for Set 15 it is Crystal Gambit. With this trait, losses will give you gem power where you will have the opportunity to cash out rewards or double down in hopes of even better rewards!
However, this one is more risky than ones in the past. If you accidentally win, you will lose half of your Gem Power and cash out immediately which means that you traded a lot of health for about half the power you would have wanted to cash out for. Most times, this means that you are going to get 4 if you invested substantial health into the cash out. However, if this happened early in the game, then it isn’t much of an issue.
TFT Crystal Gambit Champions
Syndra (1G) – Star Guardian & Prodigy
Syndra deals (AP) magic damage to the targets and reduces their Magic Resistance by 10. This makes her a good unit to potentially kill units in the early game with Crystal Gambit. Killing units in Crystal Gambit is important as you want to lose, but you don’t want to take full health losses so you can continue to double down and try to get higher cash outs without losing too much health.
Janna (2G) – Protector & Strategist
Janna grants a Shield to the 2 lowest health allies for 4 seconds and fires butterflies dealing (AP) magic damage split between the 2 closest enemies. Janna won’t be killing many units early, but she does help you have a stronger front line. She makes sense as a Crystal Gambit as she does delay fights, but she doesn’t really help kill units.
Vi (2G) – Juggernaut
Vi is a Juggernaut who has the ability Shining Knuckle Explosion where she has the passive gain armor and magic resist for each component equipped to your team. Her active is to heal (AP) deal (AD) physical damage in a 1-hex radius centered on the target, and 20% Sunder enemies hit for 4 seconds.
This passive is very unique and might make it so Vi is kept on end game boards especially after a cash out of extra components that will give the entire team additional armor and magic resistance!
Swain (3G) – Bastion & Sorcerer
Swain has incredible tags Bastion and Sorcerer. He is font line and damage and in the past, 3 cost Swains have been solid font line options. His ability Glittering Plumage Regalia where he gains (Health & AP) max Health, then deals (AP) magic damage every second to enemies in a 2-hex radius subsequent casts heal (Health) and increase the damage by (AP).
This means that Warmogs will be an excellent item on Swain has his gaining health will be capitalized on with this item. He will also do well being in the center of the board as he has a 2-hex radius. I expect Swain to be strong throughout most of the set as he is a core unit in Sorcers with the Bastion tag on top. He will give Crystal Gambit some additional flexibility and potentially ways to kill units in the mid game.
Ashe (4G) – Duelist
Ashe is a 4 cost Duelist with her ability Gates of Avarose where the next 8 attacks fire bonus arrows dealing damage split between the target and up to two random enemies within 2 hexes. She is a Dueslst which means she will likely do best with other Duelists. From teh sounds of her ability she splits up damage which maymake it that she leaves enemies at low health more often than she should. This isn’t always ideal for Crystal Gambit as it may not have the follow up damage necessary for cleaning up units Ashe leaves low. However, at 4 cost she will abe needed to keep Crystal Gambit alive as well as to stack gems!
Zyra (5G) – Rosemother
Zyra’s ability: Crystal Thorn expansion she summons untargetable Thornspitters that deal (AP) per attack and attack 4 times. Non-plant allies gain (AP) attack speed decaying over 4 seconds. Zyra’s plants also allow her to have two options: either place them in front for Grasping Roots or in the second two rows to grow Deadly Spines. Her plants benefit from her attack speed and ability power, so expect Guinsoos and Archangel to be good on her!
Crystal Gambit Best Augments
- Crystal Gambit Crest: Gain a Crystal Gambit Emblem.
- Diamond Hands: Gain 50% more total Gems from Crystal Gambit, but you can only cash out once, on 4-7. While Double Down is active, winning loses an additional 10% of your total Gems rather than cashing out.
- Knuckledusters: Gain a Vi. Your strongest Vi becomes an Attack Fighter. She now deals heavy single target damage and gains Attack Damage for item components equipped on your team.
- Crystal Gambit Circlet: Gain a Crystal Gambit Emblem and a Janna.
- Crystal Gambit Crown: Gain a Crystal Gambit Emblem, an Adaptive Helm, and a Janna.
